Hey everyone,
As I'm sure all those still around will know the server has been down for some time. Long story short it has been closed for the foreseeable future.
The primary reason for this is that the admin team lost interest more than two months ago and the server has really been stagnating. As for why we lost interest, there are a number of reasons. Most of us are either studying and working part time or working full time and things became too busy to dedicate time to the server. Another reason is that OrionAU never really took off. Things started out great for us in the beta; many players from our old servers appeared again and our future looked bright. But by the time Bukkit for 1.7 came out the hype for OrionAU had died down and we never heard from many of those old players again. In addition to this although we tried really hard, our advertising was futile and it was extremely difficult to bring in even small amounts of new players. I suspect that the market has become so saturated with servers that there just wasn't enough people looking for new servers to stumble across ours. Finally I think many of us just lost interest in Minecraft. Most of us have been playing Minecraft for years, since 2011 myself, and there is only so long a game with slow and small updates can hold our interest unfortunately.
Modpacks are the only thing that still personally tickle my fancy with Minecraft. If enough people were interested we could create a modpack server (I for one finish Uni for the semester in two weeks), but I'm not even sure if anyone is keen for that sort of thing. I know that our community was mostly into bukkit servers with plugins rather than modpacks. A quick browse of the internet shows that the following modpacks are popular these days (I'm so out of the loop): The Crafting Dead (based off the walking dead TV show I assume, so zombies etc.), PixelSpark (pokemon in minecraft), Tekkify (The new frequently updated Tekkit) and Feed the Beast Unleashed (currently most popular FTB pack).
So yeah it's up to everyone if you want to band together for another project.
It has been a great run everyone. I hope you all have fond memories of Minecapital, Solus Gaming and OrionAU if you have been around that long. I don't think that I will ever run a server like these again (bukkit servers, that is). Minecraft was a big part of my life for many years and I have met so many amazing people through this game. I hope this isn't goodbye, but in case it is I shall wish you all fun and fulfilling lives.
Regards,
Veiocity
