I read somewhere that in the beginning, because the air is so thin there was very little air resistance and this caused Felix to feel like he hadnt actually jumped off and wasn't moving at all. I also find it interesting that right before he says 'I'm hauling ass' he actually dropped in speed by a significant amount. I wonder if at the time he realised how quickly he was moving?
Also, probably nausea! he did pass out for a second there too!
